What is ProMuso

ProMuso

I planned to start a commercial venture using my  decades of music and media production experience , but quickly realised this venture has no commercial basis without my own suitable studio, regardless that I have a 16 track portable recorder, so I dropped that idea before it started.

This site is therefore only for keeping my own musical interests in one place, allow people access to what I’m up to and record progress on the 101 Celtic styled tunes I’ve composed, mostly over the last 3 years.

Recording potential

Should any friends wish professional standard recording on a non commercial basis and you’re involved in traditional Celtic folk music, jazz or classical music, I guess you know I’m available to assist as I have a genuine interest in these areas.

With around 100 microphones, 32 track portable studio and 128 track Allen and Heath desk based studio, I can record at the highest levels of audio fidelity available.

However, this is not a profit making venture as I have enough going on without the burden of administrating a commercial business. An area I love to get engrossed in, is audio restoration as I have put together fantastic hardware and software solutions to this area of personal  interest. From aged cassettes, LPs etc,  I can convert sources to digital removing background noise, enhancing sound and adding analogue warmth.

Research - I am researching the influence of folk music in Edinburgh 1960 - 95 on the current traditional scene.

Why The Research?

It’s a genuinely deep interest. I’ve interviewed and recorded many key figures and am discussing a PhD in this area with several universities at the moment.

Where to click

Research

Recording for archive purposes the key players, whether instrumentalists, promoters, club organisers, fans etc active in Edinburgh 1960 - 95

Recording

Despite being non commercial I'm looking to extend to friends the ability to record the highest quality levels of analogue to digital recording and mastering , utilising an Allen & Heath console and Drawmer compression. Acoustic ensemble recordings only as electric doesn't really interest me unless it sits with acoustic jazz or traditional music. e.g. Electric jazz guitar or electric piano keyboards but not screaming synths.

Audio Restoration

Audio restoration is best undertaken from original analogue sources where possible. It is with lesser results, possible to greatly improve the dreadful output from USB turntables and cassette transfer machines but note these are audio destructive mediums.

If you want assistance, just ask!

Quality Experience

Honestly, I've loads of experience available free to anyone wanting to develop their acoustic music. Again, it's non commercial, it's just nice to be nice.

Creative Composition

Practical advice for anyone looking to develop their composition skills available. If I can't assist, I'll know someone that can.

Why

I have time to assist anyone developing their music and that's a genuine interest for me.

Potential

The best results are often achieved when ideas are openly shared. An impartial 3rd party could be just what you need.

it starts with you!

Research in Edinburgh Folk Scene 1960-95

Help!  I want to talk to as many people, record the conversations that were active in any capacity including just attending clubs in the 1960’s.

A great recording can only start with a great performance.

I can record to the highest fidelity standards, but that is only the final stages of a quality recording. A great performance is required, aided by comfortable and relaxed  surroundings with good acoustics and people and equipment in whom the performer has confidence.  That’s largely why I want to assist only friends and on a non commercial basis.

Let’s see if talking about your project gives new insights and ideas. Collaboration and communication almost always allows ideas to be developed.
